Taiaiako’n Historical Preservation Society

Audio Clip of Donna Powless, Cayuga, Six Nations introducing herself, and sharing her work with Taiaiako’n Historical Preservation Society. Recorded at the opening of a Friends of Allan Gardens program on Jan 27th, 2024.

Taiaiako’n was settlement with a population of about 5,000 peoples of various nations including Seneca, Mohawk, and Wendat. It was located along the eastern banks of the Humber River (Niwa'ah Onega'gaih'ih /Little Thundering Waters). Despite being burnt down by a French-led army in 1687, Taiaiako’n’s story is a living reminder of the enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples in Toronto and across Turtle Island.
